Admin Guide: Configuring and using Geofencing

Created by Brittany Hildreth, Modified on Tue, 27 May at 5:22 PM by Brittany Hildreth

When enabled, Geofencing limits users abilities to capture photos outside of a specified location. This will save agents from having to review “bad” images, i.e. images captured at an undesirable location.

Geofencing is an additional option within Inspection Types, and admins will be able to add this option to an existing Inspection Type.

How does it work?

If Geofencing is enabled on an inspection type, then the camera is blocked if users attempt to capture images outside of the boundary defined in the inspection type. It looks like this for the end user.

A screenshot of the Vision Camera app is shown. In it, the camera is open, but at the top is a warning, reading "Not In Location. Relocate to 1390 S Beach Blvd, La Habra, CA 90631, USA". Below this, there is a message saying "Camera disabled".

As you see, this will prompt a notification for the Truepic Vision app user, and they will not be able to capture a photo through the Truepic Vision app until they are within the agent-defined set perimeter of the input location.

How to add Geofencing to an Inspection Type

If you are an admin on the account, you can add Geofencing to an Inspection Type by selecting the gear icon in the lower left hand corner of your dashboard. Clicking the Gear Icon will open the Site Settings. Under Manage Inspections, you will see the option for Inspection Types.

From there, select the Inspection Type that you would like to use Geofencing

This will open the Inspection Type window, scroll down to Address, where you can set the Address field as required and then enable Geofencing.

You must set a maximum distance from the address (in meters) for Geofencing

Address must be marked as required in order for Geofencing to be enabled.

A screenshot of the Inspection Type screen is shown. At the bottom of the screen, there is a section labeled "Address". This contains 2 checkboxes, "Required" and "Enable Geofencing". Checking "Enable Geofencing" causes another field to show, labeled "Maximum distance from address (in meters)". Below this, there are buttons to Cancel or Save Changes.

Once you have completed the fields, select SAVE CHANGES and refresh the browser window.

With this feature in place, when an agent creates an inspection with an inspection type that has this feature enabled, they will be required to input an address for the inspection. Customers will only be able to capture photos within the permitted maximum distance listed from the Address location.
